Introducing: Badges!

Introducing: Badges!

Postby Cactusdan » Tue Sep 24, 2013 7:04 pm

Introduction

Greetings fellow TEG members. We are very happy to announce an exciting new feature to The Earth Garden: Badges!

What are Badges?

Badges are similar to achievements in video games, except on this forum, they identify real skills that have been learned or can be shared. The skills that can be awarded Badges have something to do with the main theme of this forum (gardening, outdoors, environment, etc.) and will hopefully influence user relations and interaction.

How do I get a Badge?

Badges will be awarded by Admins and Moderators to those who demonstrate skills for which there is currently a badge. It is up to the managements discretion as to who receives a Badge and whether or not the user can keep it (i.e. frequent misidentifications). Some Badges, such as the "Fire Maker" Badge, require the user to upload a video or images of them preforming the required task.

All badges can be achieved by making a "Badge Request" thread in the appropriate forum (i.e. a "Fire Maker" request in the Traditional Skills forum) or by messaging a member of the staff to request one (You must have public proof of your accomplishments).

Sometimes, the staff will award badges without a formal request. If this happens, you will be notified about the achievement and awarded the badge. This is most common with things like Identification badges.

What Badges are available?

I love the badges and want more to strive for! I'd like to see a basket weaving badge but there are also so many other possibilities. Looking good as always Dan!

That's a pretty swell idea. Makes me feel like a noob ( rightfully so ) but nevertheless believes it adds novelty to the forum. I also think it's cool to quickly see who, around the forum, might be able to help you with some specific inquiries.

cheers!
